HKACB 2018

The Hong Kong Arbitration Charity Ball is an initiative led by members of Hong Kong’s legal and arbitration community aimed at raising money for local Hong Kong charities and to promote Hong Kong as a leading venue for dispute resolution.

The Ball is held during the annual Hong Kong Arbitration Week, which Coming into its 7th Year, has taken its place in the global calendar of "Must Attend Events" for arbitration practitioners in Asia and worldwide. Last year’s Ball attracted over 400 attendees, including senior judges, members of the Legislative Council, Senior industry professionals, members of Hong Kong’s business community, as well as leading lawyers and arbitrators from around the world.

We will be supporting two fantastic community organizations this year that are...

What is new in 2018?

This year, the Ball moves to a new venue at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel in its stunning glass roofed ballroom with scenic views of the harbour. To enhance the beauty of the view and make this experience unique, music and entertainment will be at the heart of the night as we introduce a new contemporary theme - Electric Masquerade.

The evening will continue to feature our traditional live auction and super raffle, but we have introduced a new silent auction. This year we have brought onboard charity partner Givergy to support in our fundraising. This gives us a technological upgrade to proceedings making fundraising interactive, easy and introduces a fun competitive element to the night. You are guaranteed to have a few laughs, and a great time, whilst bidding on some of the excellent items up for grabs.

We look forward to seeing you there!

A little bit about the HKACB in previous years

The Honorary Patron of the Ball is The Hon. Chief Justice Geoffrey MA. In 2017 we decided to split our fund raising between two charities. The majority of the funds raised went to "Help", charity which supports and assists foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong in avoiding exploitation and illegal treatment while a second round of funding was provided to our 2013 lead Charity “SoCO, the society for the Community Organization“, to support continue its good work in relation to the encouragement of equal opportunity for participation and fair distribution of social resources. While the key objective of the Hong Kong Arbitration Charity Ball is to raise money for people in need, it also aims to promote Hong Kong as a leading seat for international arbitration.  As such, 20% of monies raised from the charity ball go towards achieving this goal. In previous years, the funds have been awarded to (i) the Chinese University of Hong Kong to research perceptions about arbitration in Hong Kong and mainland China and what improvements can be made (ii) the Vis East Moot Foundation; (iii) the HKIAC and Arias to set up in Hong Kong [iv] HK45 and the Moot Alumni Association.
